Our reports are currently focusing upon five major themes:

The right (lack of at the moment) of free speech within the Turks & Caicos Islands.
Bringing issues of government corruption to light, as there is evidence of corruption present, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. An incredibly high level of corruption for a country with a population of 30-35,000 people, of which only 11-12,000 are citizens.A level of corruption that threatens the country’s very existence as a lawful society.
The work involved in the protection of our natural and cultural heritage. The protection of our pristine environment from threats foreign and domestic. The country is blessed with the third largest coral reef system in the world and has consistently been judged by multiple independent groups as one of the top 10 locations ON EARTH, to experience the marvels of the underwater world.
The work necessary to support all elements of good governance. To hold Turks & Caicos elected officials and British appointed officials accountable for their decisions.
The work necessary to stimulate a discussion, through exploring policy options and approaches, that will help build and maintain a flourishing civil society.

What is Star Island? And Why are People Upset?

What is Star Island?

Star Island is an artificial island being created by dumping thousands and thousands of cubic yards of sand into the ocean.

Why are people upset about it?

This island is being built in the middle of a National Marine Park that is currently under legal protection.

The silt and sand from this development will kill significant amounts of coral, as it drifts over a wide area, as well as damage the natural fish hatcheries that comprise the Princess Alexandria National Park; the most prominent National Park in the Country, comprising most of the North Shore of Providenciales.

Internationally and locally, this project has hit emotionally at the very heart of the image of this Country, as one with a pristine natural environment, and upset people from all walks of life and all levels of society. Its' level of foolishness and destructiveness is breathtaking.

The planning board for the Turks and Caicos Islands refused this project, but were overturned by Floyd Hall and Michael Misick of the current PNP Government.

Who is the developer?

The developer is Rodney Propps, Chairman of Tahl-Propp Equities, a real estate developer out of New York City.

What is being done to stop this project?

1. Legal action protesting this project on environmental grounds has been launched.

2. Attention is being brought to the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and to the International Press about the rampant corruption of the current government. Attention is also being brought to the activities of Rodney Propps.

3. A petition has been posted to gather public response at:

This petition is being spearheaded by "The Mangrove Cay Defense Fund".

4. Various civic leaders have been contacted and are mobilizing to stop this project.

Fort George Cay

Where is Fort George Cay?

Fort George Cay is located between Dellis Cay and Pine Cay, in the chain of cays between Providenciales and North Caicos. The image below, at the bottom of this article, can also be downloaded in pdf format here: Small_Cays.pdf

It is currently designated a National Park.

Why is Fort George Cay in the news?

The current Government of Michael Misick has approved in Cabinet a concept that will see the development of a Sea-World style aquarium, that includes captured dolphins, and related developments on the cay.

Why are people upset?

It is a National Park, meant for the use of all and it is also a cay with significant historical significance for the Turks & Caicos. One can see elements of the old fort that used to be there plus submerged cannons, and other items of historical interest.

It continues the steady distruction of the natural, pristine environment that is the REAL economic life blood of this Country.

What can be done to stop this?

Publicze this as much as possible within the belonger and resident populations. Next time you see the Governer, ask him what he is doing to stop this.

Creating alliances with International Environmental Organizations to bring attention to this and other Environmental Crimes unfolding under this government. Various civic leaders are taking steps in this direction.
